Fluency in a new Language (aka Spanish)
After my early experiences with learning French (failing dismally). I thought fluency in another language was beyond me. I’ve since found out that this belief wasn’t true, as I am now an advanced Spanish speaker.
But this belief was crippling, and it would’ve remained true if I hadn’t at least ATTEMPTED to learn Spanish. Luckily for me there are many cognates (similar words) and Spanish speakers are, in general, friendly people, both of these ‘facts’ made this journey FAR easier for me, in fact I doubt I would’ve even attempted it otherwise.
My lessons, either in live classes/digital/podcast, Immersion or via my Audio recordings all aim to rapidly take you to fluency. All you need to add to this is some real life usage.
Things like slang, sayings, phrases etc change by country and even region. I don’t really attempt to teach these beyond acknowledging their existence. This is where you have to learn ‘on the fly’- if you are living in a Spanish country I would say the best thing to do is copy what you hear, always have Spanish subtitles on ANYTHING you are watching, learn the lyrics to music you like and sing along, ALWAYS speak as much Spanish as possible to anyone you are talking to, that speaks Spanish, even if they speak English. You can always politely explain your situation and that if they speak slowly and clearly that would greatly help you. They will probably politely acknowledge the journey you are on and change the way they are speaking for your benefit. Imagine someone who was new to the English language asking you to do this, you most likely try their best to make it as easy as possible for the person you are speaking to.
